Dumindu Kanishka, a visionary leader in Sri Lanka’s digital space, is making waves as the TON Society Ambassador for Sri Lanka and a passionate Telegram activist. His journey began in 2019 when he first recognized the immense value and future potential of the Telegram platform. Since then, Dumindu has been on a mission to bring local creators, influencers, and businesses into the Telegram ecosystem, helping them harness the power of this innovative communication tool.
His academic journey started at Prince College Ratnapura and Kuruwita Central College. Currently an undergraduate at the University College of Ratmalana, pursuing an HND in Event Management. His academic focus, coupled with his passion for digital solutions, made him an ideal candidate to become the TON Society Ambassador for Sri Lanka.
In July 2024, Dumindu’s dedication and previous contributions related to Telegram and TON caught the attention of the Head of Community at TON, who recognized his potential. He was invited to take on the role of TON Ambassador for Sri Lanka, where his main mission became clear: “Putting TON in every Sri Lankan wallet” and empowering local developers and creators to build on The Open Network (TON).
Since taking on the role, Dumindu has initiated several key activities to promote TON in Sri Lanka. These include supporting the first-ever TON Breakfast event in Colombo as both a designer and panelist, translating TON documentation into Sinhala for the local community, and starting the Telegram forum ‘Telegram Creators Sri Lanka’ to connect local creators. He also hosted the ‘Introduction to TON: Sinhala Edition’ on X, where he introduced TON to the Sri Lankan community in their native language.
Dumindu’s activism extends beyond his role as the TON Ambassador. In 2019, he founded Creative Sharks Digital Solutions to introduce Telegram to Sri Lankan artists and influencers, creating more verified Telegram channels to attract more people to the platform. He also helped bring several local communities, including Online Entrepreneurs Club Sri Lanka (OECSL) and Graphic Design SL, to Telegram, fostering an inclusive digital space for collaboration and growth.
Looking to the future, Dumindu plans to expand TON’s reach by encouraging local businesses to accept TON payments and hosting more events both online and offline. His efforts aim to ensure that every Sri Lankan creator is empowered and connected through TON and Telegram.
Driven by a belief in open access, empowering creators, and creating a more connected world, Dumindu’s work is transforming the digital landscape in Sri Lanka. As he continues to innovate and inspire, his impact is sure to grow, solidifying his place as a key figure in the world of digital communication and blockchain technology. For more updates, follow Dumindu on his social media platforms: X , LinkedIn , Facebook , Telegram
